Mental Health Awareness Contest- Poster showing Tree of Mental Wellness

One in five children and youth in Texas have a diagnosable mental health need. Many do not receives services. This may be due to a lack of knowledge about mental health, a lack of access to mental health care, or a stigma or taboo associated with mental health issues.

Child Inc Head Start provides access to mental health services, including education about child mental health and healthy social and emotional development, screening for all children, and extra assistance to staff, children and their families to help with the ordinary and more difficult challenges that all children can present.

Our Mental Health Services department, led by Mary Dunlap,LPC,  held a Mental Health art contest, challenging our center and office staff to present projects to encourage mental health awareness.

Here are some of the projects!

For more Mental Health Awareness Activities, the Texas System of Care, funded by SAMHSA, has organized a free public Children’s Mental Health Awareness Day rally and march at the Capitol and a free family-oriented fair at Wooldridge Square Park on Saturday. Read here for details.
