October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month as well as Head Start Awareness month. Health goes hand and hand with the Head Start mission.
Ladies…early detection is key! A mammogram – the screening test for breast cancer – can help find breast cancer early when it’s easier to treat.

Breast Health Services and Resources:

Through its community health care grantees, Susan G Komen Austin funding makes critical breast health services accessible to uninsured and under insured women and men in Bastrop, Caldwell, Hays, Travis, and Williamson Counties. If you need breast health services, look for your county below and contact the Komen Austin funded health care provider which offers the service you need.

Alliance for African American Health in Central Texas (AAAHCT).

The AAAHCT serves the counties of Bastrop, Caldwell, Travis and Williamson counties. They direct outreach and education to women in African American communities and provides immediate access to screening mammography and diagnostic services when necessary.

Breast Cancer Resources Center.

BCRC handles Patient Navigation Services. Through the Komen Austin grant, women and men over 40 who receive an abnormal screening will be assigned a patient navigator to assist them through the process of diagnostic navigation and through treatment if necessary in all five counties.

CommUnity Care.

CommUnity Care enhances Travis County’s capacity in meeting the shortage of funds in breast cancer screening and diagnostic follow up for the growing underinsured and uninsured population.

MEALS ON WHEELS in-Home-Care (Formally HAND- Helping the Aging, Needy, and Disabled).

MOW is awarded a grant to provide in home assistance to persons diagnosed with breast cancer. Supportive services are available in Bastrop, Travis and Williamson counties.

Samaritan Health Ministries.

Located in Williamson County, Samaritan Health Ministries is a returning provider which ensures the availability of breast health services in the northern part of the Komen Austin Service area. This year the grant will provide screening mammograms and diagnostic follow up.

Planned Parenthood of Greater Texas.
