Our Executive Director, Albert Black, shared a newsletter from the ACF Office of Child Care warning of the dangers of heatstroke, which can occur if a child is left in a car for even a very short time. In addition, healthychildren.org suggests the following to combat hot weather: Find an air-conditioned space. Stay hydrated (drink plenty of water!) Dress lightly. Get extra rest time. If your child gets hot, cool them off with a cool bath, water mist, or swimming. We are fortunate that Austin has a variety of public libraries and community recreation centers to spend the hottest hours indoors, reading, exercising, or engaging in a variety of activities, as well as several public pools and splash pads for the not-as-hot hours. Keep your cool! We still have some summer left to get through!
